Michael Gariepy

Three year veteran, aspiring spike.

I was introduced to Magic by John about 3 days before War of the Spark dropped and have been consumed ever since.  My first time experiencing synergy in a deck was with the Wildgrowth Walker / Explore mechanic and I couldn’t stop dreaming up ideas ever since.

I fancy myself a constructed format nerd – Standard and Historic obviously being most accessible, but as I learn more about the history and depth of the game, I’ve started to dabble in Pioneer and recently Modern (though I still get slapped around in Modern).

Despite being a long time gamer, somehow Magic was never on my radar until now. My dream for the channel is to one day host “Magic in the Woods” – an in-person game on my small island in the Pacific Northwest with some cool guests.

Until then – I’ll see you in the Arena.

I’m too old for this shit!

I’ve been playing Magic the Gathering for ever! I’ve opened packs of unlimited and revised. Hell I was in my local card shop the day Legends and Antiquities we’re first delivered. I’ve taken extended breaks over the past, almost 30 years, but I always come back to the game.

Limited, is what brought me back last time. As soon as I drafted for the first time I was hooked all over again. I played in the pre-release for Worldwake, then did some drafting, wow! It was a new way to play MTG, that took the expensiveness out of the game. Everyone starts on an even playing field, with the same resources. So much fun. It doesn’t matter how big your collection is, or how much of a spike your are. You just need to learn the cards of the set you are drafting, and away you go.
